Adventure 51 - The Longfingers Guild

With no time to recover from the attack at House Kath, the Storm Guard quickly made their way to the Longfingers Guild, with Seanus in tow.

As Ebrahim lead the group first down into Oldtown, and then into the maze of the sewers, you eventually reached the formerly-hidden entrance.  There, you found the entryway opened, but not by force.  Inside, a small group of thugs and would-be assassins guarded the entrance but were easily defeated.  Warily, you noticed that the guild’s traps had been reset.

As you pressed inward, you fought Vladaam gang member - a mix of werewolves and hired men.  Eventually you made your way into what appeared to be the guild’s vault, which had been opened.  There, in the mix of Vladaam men, was one of the Longfingers Guild’s own members, and more alarming was a man named Morteza, a member of Ebrahim’s former gang.  How he became allied with the Vladaams was unclear.

A pitched battle ensued with Morteza alternating between mocking Ebrahim and bartering for his life.  No quarter was given, and when the battle ended Morteza’s lay dead.  A search of guild traitor revealed a scar on his skull, and a gruesome extraction by Carric found the expected Slaad-stone.

Party continued a careful advance, searching for survivors, but there were virtually none. The office of Hayman Knapp, guild leader, was found empty and ransacked.  Eventually, in a distant room, you found the body of Hayman, being devoured by some sort of lizard-creature.  It was the pet of Gattara Vlaadam, who remained nearby, oblivious to much of what was going on around her.   As the party attacked her werewolf bodyguard, Gattara responded with spells.  Ebrahim cleverly used the hat of disguise to appear as Morteza, and convinced the addled Gattara that she needed to leave.  She did, taking her lizard-pet with her.  Phen decided to tail her to see where she went.

Backtracking, the party eliminated the remaining Vladaam forces and eventually found the guild’s second-in-command, Garvin, unconscious in a safe room.   Revived with healing spells, he confirmed much of what was suspected: the Vladaams were let in by a traitorous guild member, they seemed intent on destroying the guild.   Garvin offered what limited assistance he could whenever the party chose to retaliate, but the guild had little manpower left - only those not in the guild headquarters at the time of the attack were likely survivors.

While Ebrahim stayed  behind to help secure the guild hall, the rest of the party headed back into the city and scattered, with a plan to meet back at the Rosegate House in the morning.  Carric made his way to the Noble’s quarter to check on House Kath and Lady Devina.   Raelen returned home to find four city watchmen posted at your house: additional security.  He was given a message from Zavere, requesting a meeting before any action was taken against the Vladaams.  You were to meet him not at Castle Shard, but at a government building in Oldtown.

Phen trailed Gattara Vladaam into the night, and she eventually led him to South Market, and small shop named “Blackstock Printing” - a name you had seen long ago on calling carried by Godfred Vladaam.  The store was closed at this late hour, but after she knocked, torchlight was seen inside, and Gattara was let in.  Peering through the window, Phen saw two strange men, both identical, with gray irises in their eyes, escort her into a back room.

At morning, the party would meet at the Rosegate House, and decide how to retaliate against the Vladaams.
